    Valerie Keables Wood

    January 2, 1949 - October 17, 2021

Valerie Keables Wood, 72, of Louisville, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 17, 2021, following a long battle with cancer and other complications. She was born in Louisville on January 2, 1949, to the late Hal and Vivian Keables and was the third of nine children. Valerie graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and the University of Louisville. She was the loving wife of Charles “Chuck” Wood for 51 years. Along with being an avid card player, she enjoyed game nights with family and playing bridge with friends. She loved to travel, and she took numerous cruises and trips to the beach. For many years, she enjoyed boating on the Ohio River with her husband, family, and friends. Valerie’s faith was a very important part of her daily life, and much of her time was spent engaged in bible studies and working with various groups at Northeast Christian Church. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her uncle, Joseph Bland, and her brothers, Mark and Hal Keables. She is survived by her loving husband Charles D. Wood, son Brian K. Wood (Jennifer) and daughter Susan D. Morrison; and her dearly beloved grandchildren: Tyler, Brendan, and Riley Morrison; Olivia and Eli Wood. Valerie was the happiest and most loving grandmother. Her world seemed to revolve around her grandchildren, and they became her best friends. She is also survived by her siblings: Kay Woodworth, Paul Keables (Amy), Keith Keables, Chris Keables (Ginny), Mike Keables (Carol), and Dee Dee Keables (Kevin) as well as her in-laws; Sarah Cox (Steve), Bob Wood, Diane Keables, Jane Bryant; and many adoring nieces and nephews. The family is especially grateful for her long-time personal caregiver, Kirston Bledsoe, and the help provided by Hosparus Health of Louisville. The visitation will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pearson’s Funeral Home on 149 Breckenridge Lane. Her funeral service will also be held at Pearson’s Funeral Home on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northeast Christian Church at 9900 Brownsboro Road (www.necchurch.org).
