Robert Louis Koegel, Sr. of Louisville (native of West Allis, Wisconsin) died Wednesday January 13, 2022, at the age of 100. Following his role as Master Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, he had a long and successful career as the Executive Credit Manager of Clark Oil & Refining Corporation where he worked from the time the business began with only a few gasoline stations, until it eventually became the largest independent oil company in the Midwestern United States. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the U.S. National Parks, Hawaii, and Branson, Missouri. His favorite vacation spot was Yosemite National Park in California, where he visited many times. After retirement he enjoyed lawn bowling, where he was the captain of the team, and was active in his church where he volunteered as treasurer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Helen Christ Koegel in 2003, and his devoted friend and dance partner, Betty Guelich in 2018. He is survived by his daughter Sharon Mills, R.N. (Wayne Young) and his son Dr. Robert Louis Koegel, Jr. (Dr. Lynn Kern Koegel); grandchildren Jennifer Newell, Christopher Robert Mills (Rachel), Ashley Koegel, M.D. (Patrick Avila M.D.) and Dr. Brittany Koegel; and great-grandchildren Austin Newell, Taylor Newell (Jeff Willhoite), Addison and Mya Mills, and Remy Robert Avila. Private Memorial Service to be held at a later date.
