February 13, 1938 - July 16, 2019
Judith M. South, 81, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2019. Judy was born in Erie, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Art and a minor in Creative Writing. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John V. South. She is survived by her two daughters, Anne Collis (Ricky) and Julie Goebel(Adam) and her grandchildren, Michael, Caroline and Rebecca Collis and Jack and Anna Goebel. Judy is also survived by her brothers, Norman Mosher (Lynn), Robert Mosher (Vicki), her sister Deb Leithauser (Doug), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Judy was a talented artist who expressed her creativity even as a child. Sewing doll clothes for her cousin, building a huge spaceship from boxes, or putting on puppet shows were all just a hint of what she would go on to create in the future. As an artist, Judy was not confined to only painting and drawing. Her gourmet meals, handmade original pottery and jewelry, seasonal tablescapes and holiday decor were some of the facets that displayed her talents. Judy exhibited and sold her art locally in Louisville as well as in Miami, New York City, and Chicago. Landscapes, florals, and abstracts were some of her favorite subjects, but the painting process was not always limited to canvas. Throughout the years Judy did decorative painting on large pieces of furniture, sewed and painted unique quilted silk jackets, and used her skills to create unique artwork on the floors and walls of the Bellarmine Women’s Showhouses. The exquisite expressions of her artistic gift are the legacy she leaves to all of us. Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2019 at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Lane with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be 12-2 p.m. Friday prior to service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Kentucky Humane Society, 1000 Lyndon Lane Suite B Louisville, KY 40222.
