August 26, 1941 - March 25, 2021
JOHN ARCHER HELFRICH, 79, passed into his Heavenly life on March 25, 2021. He grew up in Louisville, KY graduated from Eastern High School and the University of Louisville. He served in the United States Army with military duty in Europe. John retired from a 30-year career with Humana as a Data Analyst with a brilliant mathematical mind. He enjoyed watching sports and especially loved being a U of L fan. As an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, he was vested every Sunday and loved working with the Acolytes, as his church life was very important to him. For several years he supported the public radio fund drive as a volunteer and hearing his voice on the radio was always a thrill. As an avid, respected and ethical Bridge player, he appreciated his relationships with the other players and achieved the Silver Life Masters Level. He was also a Master at being a wonderful family man, as a loving father to his step children and grandchildren. Music was important to him. He loved to sing and we loved to hear him sing. He would be sure to sing Happy Birthday to each family member and their spouses on their special day; a tradition we will miss greatly. Being his grandchildren’s “BonBon” was the most fulfilling part of his life. He was grateful for that honor and it gave momentous meaning to his life on this earth. He attended every performance, graduation, birthday party, holiday celebration and supported all of our interests. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have had such a brilliant, loving, and loyal man in our lives, who left us with his wisdom, memories, experiences and love for family. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Mary Cavallon Helfrich, his brother Tom Helfrich (Nancy), his niece and God daughter Teri Ann Bajek (Stosh) and their daughter Sloan A. Bajek, step children Carr Everbach (Holly), Mark Everbach (Lisa) and Anne Allen Patterson (Jerry), as well as treasured grandchildren Ian Everbach, Sophie Everbach, Helen Everbach, Ashley Everbach, Max Allen, Sam Allen, Grace Allen and plethora of friends. Funeral service will be held for John A. Helfrich 3 p.m. Saturday, July 17 2021 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 2822 Frankfort Ave. Louisville, KY 40206 with reception to follow in Langley Hall. Visitation will be 2 p.m. till time of service. Contributions in his name may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and/or The Louisville Bridge Association.
