    JoAnn Haick

    June 29, 1933 - January 5, 2021

JoAnn Haick, 87, of Louisville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. She was born in Louisville,, KY on June 29, 1933. She graduated from DuPont Manual High School where she made many friends, played on the Girls’ Basketball Team and was a member of the National Honor Society. She began her professional career with The Travelers Insurance Company, working first in the Casualty Department and later becoming the Executive Assistant to the Manager, Mr. Leigh Bush. She retired after thirty-five years with the company. After a brief retirement, JoAnn’s strong work ethic caused her to enter into a full-time position with Women’s Diagnostic Center where she worked for eight years. She again retired and spent many hours baby-sitting for her many great nieces and nephews and visiting with friends at Royal Oaks Condominiums. She spent many hours playing games with the children, taking them to the park or to the Mall and helping out when family needed her. She was a selfless person who always put others first. JoAnn was a strong Christian woman and she could recite hymns and Bible verses she learned as a child. She loved to read and to tend to her small garden, but she enjoyed family gatherings the most. Her favorite time was to host family at the holidays in her lovely home. JoAnn enjoyed traveling and began traveling internationally with her two aunts and her sister Elizabeth. She was a treasure for her family because she always kept diligent records and often had to supply dates and needed information when family members needed details for work, school or travel forms. She went to every High School reunion and she kept in touch with Travelers and WDC former co-workers who returned love and affection to her as well. JoAnn was pre-deceased by her parents, Martha and George Haick, her beloved brothers, Albert J. Haick, Alex John Haick, Sr. and Dr. Edward M. Haick, her beloved sisters, Marie McClellan and Elizabeth Barrens, her brothers-in-law, Harold F. Barrens, Dr. Hervey McClellan and Dr. Bob M. DeWeese and her sister-in-law, Hazel Haick. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister Angela DeWeese and her sister-in-law Hester haick and her beloved friend from childhood, Polly Allen Franklin. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Episcopal Church Home for their loving and professional care for JoAnn, with special thanks to Melanie Drury, APRN, ACHPN. The family also thanks caretakers Rosa Hagan and Violet Rayburn for their devotion and loving care for JoAnn. Funeral services will be held at Christ Church United Methodist 4614 Brownsboro Road, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2021. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Pearson’s Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the donor’s chosen charity.
