Hugh McNeilly Shwab III died peacefully on February 9, 2022 , after an illness, surrounded by his family. Hugh was born on July 29, 1937, to Hugh McNeilly Shwab, Jr. and Lois Wolfe Shwab. Upon his retirement as President of the leasing division of Liberty National Bank, Hugh launched a second career in financial services. Hugh also served on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society and Jewish Hospital. Hugh was a lifelong member of the Louisville Country Club, the Rotary Club of Louisville, the General Society of Colonial Wars, the Louisville Dinner Dance Club, the Louisville Conversation Club, the Prospectors Investment Club, and a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. Hugh was a graduate of The Choate School, the University of Arizona and Rutgers University, Stonier School of Banking. Hugh was predeceased in death by his parents, his brother, Thomas Wolfe Shwab, Sr., his nephew, Thomas Wolfe Shwab, Jr., and his wife of 52 years, Deborah Snyder Shwab. Hugh is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Lee Hood, his son Hugh McNeilly Shwab IV (Brooke), his daughter, Elizabeth Donnelly Shwab Mobley (Pope), his step-sons Derrick Scott Hood and Kenneth R. Hood, his sister Lois Shwab Louis (David Ratterman), his granddaughters Keller and Abby Mobley, and Piper Shwab, his niece, Mary Lois Shwab Mercer (Todd) and nephews Hunter G. Louis M.D, (Megan) and William Pierce Louis (Kyla).. Funeral service will be held 4:30 PM Friday March 4, 2022 at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church 6710 Wolf Pen Branch Road at US Hwy 42. Visitation 4-6 PM Thursday March 3rd at church. Private burial at Cave Hill Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Pearson’s, "Where Louisville Goes To Remember". Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society.
