Elisabeth Anne Kirtley Jacobs Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jacobs, Elisabeth Anne Kirtley 85, of Louisville, died unexpectedly on June 6th, 2022, with her immediate family by her side. Lis was born on April 27th, 1937, in Owensboro, KY. to the late attorney Willie Williams Kirtley-lead defense attorney to Rainey Bethea, the last man ever publicly executed in the United States in 1937, and the Honorable Judge Louise Gasser Kirtley-the first female attorney in the KY. House of Representatives. After graduating Owensboro Senior High School, she left Daviess County (Owensboro) to attend Centre College (cheerleader), then graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1959 with a Bachelor of Education and as a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. In 1961, she became a member of the KY. Derby Princesses' Court. She then went on to receive her Master of Education from the University of Louisville in 1968. In Lis' early teaching career, she had been a teacher at Waggener High School and a guidance counselor at Moore High School in Louisville, KY. Until her passing, she had been a licensed realtor in Louisville for OVER 40 years and an over 25-year member of John Knox Presbyterian Church, in Louisville, KY. She was also an avid Bridge card player, achieving 3 times, the prestigious distinction of Life Master. She absolutely loved University of Kentucky Wildcat basketball, any sports, politics with a good argument about it, her life-long faith in Church, and most of all, her two children, son William Kirtley (Kirt) Jacobs and daughter Elisabeth (Lis) Hughes Jacobs Williams from her former marriage to the late Jack Hughes Jacobs. Lis is survived by her son, William Kirtley "Kirt" Jacobs (Cynthia "Cinthy" Fanning), her daughter, Elisabeth "Lis" Jacobs Williams (Bobby Williams) and two loving, adorable grandsons, Jack Duval Williams, and Dominic Bingham "Bing" Fanning Jacobs. She is also survived by her two younger brothers, Wesley Williams "Bill" Kirtley (Susan) of Vancouver, WA. and Robert Milton "Bob" Kirtley and the late Pamela Clark Kirtley of Owensboro, Ky. As well as 4 nieces and 1 nephew-Anne Kirtley of Washington, D.C., Will Kirtley of Paris, France, Ashley Kirtley Johnson (Corey) of Owensboro, Ky., Allison Bates (Chris) of Owensboro, Ky., Amanda Kirtley (Jared Ewing) of Houston, Texas and all their 8 children. The family will all miss our pretty and fun-loving, and yes sometimes aggressive personality, of our beloved Mother, Mom, "Mama Lis," and "Mommaw." The visitation will take place at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane on Friday June 10th, 2022, receiving family and friends from 3-8p.m. Funeral will take place at John Knox Presbyterian Church 9104 Westport Rd. Louisville, KY 40242 on Saturday, June 11th, 2022, at 11a.m., with Pastor Susan Barnes presiding. Burial to follow at 1p.m. in Cave Hill Cemetery, then returning to John Knox Presbyterian Church at 2p.m. for a Celebration of Life Luncheon, where all are welcome!
