    David Regneri

    October 14, 1951 - July 27, 2021

David Regneri, (October 14, 1951-July 27, 2021) David Regneri passed away peacefully after a long battle with multiple health issues. He spent some of his final days with the most important people in his life: his beloved wife, Kathy; children Erin, Daniel, and Alice; and grandchildren Jade, Dan, and Leo. Upon his passing the world lost someone it was not deserving of: a man who was generous and caring, who enjoyed making people laugh, and who loved everyone unconditionally. It is impossible to sum up any life in a few words, but especially one as well-lived as Dave’s. He was born and raised in Germantown and lived his entire life in Louisville, graduating from St Xavier High School (‘69) and Bellarmine College (‘73). Dave was the biggest cheerleader and stalwart supporter of his three children in all of their (sometimes questionable) endeavors and was involved as a little league coach, Cub Scout Den leader, and spectator of dozens of band and orchestra concerts, marching band competitions, and softball, baseball, and soccer games, No one could ask for a more loving, devoted, hardworking husband, and his wife, children, and grandchildren recognize that they definitely “won the prize” by having him in their lives. Dave was also a father figure to so many who admired and loved him for his gentle heart and open mind. Dave was the very proud owner of Four Seasons records, (voted Best of Louisville record shop in 1988 and 1991), and he served the Louisville community for years as the man to go to when looking for the best recordings of everything from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons to ZZ Tops Greatest Hits. The Episcopal church was a cornerstone in Dave’s life and he spent decades involved as a Brotherhood of St Andrew member; Sunday school teacher; vestry member at Christ Church Cathedral, St. Mark’s Episcopal, St. Luke’s Episcopal; and most recently as a very active participant of the Bible study and adult Sunday school classes at St Luke’s. He was an avid Civil War historian, Tolkien disciple, and dynamic head coach of the fantasy football team the Yurt Dwellers. Dave was a man of many interests and lived a full, jubilant life even though he was never able to visit the largest ball of twine. Dave lived his life humbly and fully in Christ’s most basic and important message: love God and love your neighbor. Imagine if we could all lay our heads down at the end of our days as Dave did, and be comforted in knowing that we lived our whole lives with integrity, honesty, faithfulness, and love. Though the world has lost the bright light of a man who displayed endless reserves of selflessness, integrity, humor, and kindness, we can take comfort in knowing that Dave is no longer exhausted from the months and years of medical struggles, hospital visits, and doctors’ appointments. He is now walking in peace with his parents, brothers, and friends who departed before he did, in a place much more deserving of his consummate goodness: where Roy Hobbs always smashes the lights, the Ring is always destroyed, and the good guys always win. “End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path, one we all must take. The grey curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass...And then you see it: white shores, and beyond. A far green country, under a swift sunrise.” In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. David supported the ALS Association, the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund, Heifer International, the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m., Thursday, August 5th at Anchorage Presbyterian Church, 11403 Park Rd. Anchorage, KY 40223. Service 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 5th at St Luke's Episcopal Church, 1206 Maple Lane, Louisville, KY 40223. Reception 12:30 p.m. at Achorage Presbyterian Church.
