Brian Charters O'Leary

Brian Charters O’Leary, 78, passed away peacefully on October 7th at Baptist East palliative care unit. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ethel O’Leary. Brian is survived by his sister, Phyllis Terry of Glendale, AZ, nieces Stacy Schiavo (Harold) and Bonnie Roberts and nephew Scott Terry. He is also survived by numerous relatives in Ireland whom he loved to visit and many wonderful friends. Brian grew up in Congers, New York and graduated from Congers Community High School in 1961. He moved to California and attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA graduating with a BBA degree in Finance in 1965. After a four-month tour of Europe he received as a graduation gift, Brian began a long career with General Electric as an accounting trainee for GE Appliances in California. Not long after he was drafted into the army and served two years, one year in Vietnam where he earned the following medals for his service: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. After his service he returned to the GE LA office to continue his accounting work until 1986 when consolidation took him to Kansas City for two years, then to Louisville where he retired in May 1998. Brian held dual citizenships in the US and Ireland and loved traveling there doing genealogy research on a family tree project and visiting family. A memorial mass will be held at The Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. Fifth Street, Louisville, KY 40202, at noon on October 28. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help eliminate Parkinson’s disease.
