February 28, 1927 - April 13, 2021
Anne Dixon Sweets February 28, 1927- April 13, 2021 Anne, aka Big Annie, was a saint among us. For all of her 94 years, Anne saw the God in everyone she met, and infused joy into the ordinary. She lived a perfect Christian life and to her, all God’s people were equal. Anne met each day with compassion and love. Born in Belmont, NC, to the late Neely Frank Dixon and Faye Sloan, she was a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte. In addition to raising four children, she was active in the First Presbyterian Church, many community organizations, and was a founder of Gaston Day School, Gastonia, where she taught third grade for many years. Anne moved to Louisville in 1976 when she married Martin Sweets, and they enjoyed years of extensive travel. She dedicated four decades to Calvin Presbyterian Church and many community organizations. For 35 years she fulfilled her vision of a loving, intergenerational family despite geographic separation, by gathering for precious times together at the beach. She leaves behind her Hall children Marilee (Clark), Suzanne (Joe), Walter (Jill), and Tom (Martha). Her Sweets stepchildren are Meme (Bob), and Tom (Karen). Grandchildren include Sloan (Jamie), Tommy (Gabby), McKendree, Maggie (Ben), Mary (Adam), Baird (Lydia), Walter (Sabine), Annie, Sarah, Libby Gray, Amelia (David), Henry, and Lee (Amber). Great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren include Ruth, Rose, Rowan, Nora, Neely, Elsie, Ethan, Isaac, Nathanael, Lydia, Simeon, Allie, Nathan, Hannah, Patrick, and Matthew. Anne thrived at the Episcopal Church Home for 17 years. A celebration of her life will be at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2501 Rudy Lane in Louisville on Saturday, April 17 at 11:00 a.m. Masks are required and social distancing observed. A link to the service will be available at pearsonfuneralhome.com. after the service. Cave Hill interment will be private. Remembrances may be made in her memory to Cabbage Patch Settlement House in Louisville. Her family lovingly remembers phone calls that invariably concluded with Big Annie’s famous farewell, “Check you later, precious!” Funeral can be viewed on Pearson's website Monday afternoon.
