Louis R. "Louie" Guenthner Jr.
GUENTHNER, RET. STATE REPRESENTATIVE LOUIS R. "LOUIE" JR., ATTY., after battling three ravaging illnesses simultaneously, two days shy of his 68th birthday, Louie left this world of pain and strife and entered his permanent home of peace Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in the late evening.
Louie, was a long time Louisvillian both born and raised here. He was a graduate of Trinity High School "62", Bellarmine "69" and University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law "71".
After working through law school as a probation officer, Louie pursued a career in politics. For 18 years Louie fought long and hard for to maintain his position and influence as a State Representative for the 48th District in Louisville, KY. Though he was loved by many and misunderstood by few, Louie was a leader ahead of his time, fighting hard and tirelessly for his constituents and the good people of Kentucky on many levels. Always fighting until the end, Louie worked through his illness as an Assistant County Attorney, a position graciously offered to him by County Attorney Mike O'Connell.
A devoted father, proud grandfather and loving husband, Louie was preceded in death by his father, Louis Robert Guenthner; mother, Gladys Longenbohn Guenthner; and sister, Charlene Guenthner.
He leaves behind a wife, Katrina F. Guenthner; daughter, Melissa Bland Atkins (Kevin); son, Robert Louis Guenthner III (Katie); sister, Sharon Geiger (Ray); 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Pearson's, 149 Breckinridge, Lane. Visitation Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday, August 12, 2012 from noon until time of service.
Flowers are welcomed and contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the ALS Association of Kentucky and the American Diabetes Association of Kentucky.v
