Esther Crady
Esther Rose Curella Crady, 87, of Louisville passed away on Sunday.
A loving wife and Mother, Esther was born in Cumberland, Wisconsin, on January 30, 1925, to Frank and Jamie (DeCamillis) Curella, who had immigrated to the United States from San Polo Matese (Molise), Italy. The 8th of 12 children, Ester’s family eventually migrated to Louisville, where she attended and graduated from Ursuline Academy, then located at Shelby and Chestnut Streets.
During WWII, Ester worked for the U.S. Government in a clerical position, then Dunn and Bradsteet, and the Jefferson County Planning and Zoning Commission. In 1945, she married Thurston M. Crady to whom she was married for 56 years before Judge Crady died in 2001.
Fluent in her parents’ native Italian, Esther was most happy when traveling throughout her beloved Italy with her own family where she was able to display her language skills. She also loved playing golf and Bridge with her many friends at Audubon Country club, where she and Judge Crady were members for many years.
In addition to her husband, Esther was preceded in death by her parents and nine of her siblings.
She is survived by her sister, Jane Brangers; brother, Albert Curella of Kokomo, IN; daughter, Yolanda Joan deGolian (Robert); son, Lance Crady; grandchildren, Melissa Crady, Sean Crady of Chicago and R. Crady deGolian of Lexington and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, 2119 Payne St. with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Lane.
