Dorothy Edwards Smith

Dorothy Edwards Smith, 97, of The Forum at Brookside, passed away Friday February 3, 2012.

A native of London, Ky., she was an accomplished pianist and a graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Dorothy was an active member of the Younger Woman’s Club and the Louisville Woman’s Club and also a long time member of Owl Creek Country Club and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Anchorage.

She was preceded in death by her parents Don C. Edwards, Sr. and Lida H. Edwards, her brother Don C. Edwards, Jr. and her husband of 37 years, J. Porter Smith.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Sandra Summers of Mt. Pleasant, SC, her son Don E. Smith (Marian), five grandchildren Helen Hinton, J. Porter Hinton (Christine) of Crofton, MD., Don E. Smith, Jr., of Milwaukee, WI., Barbara T. Smith, Marion S. Whelan (Larry) and two great grandchildren.

Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff and management of The Forum for their care during her long stay.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Tuesday February 7, 2012 at Pearson’s 149 Breckenridge Lane with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday after 11 am.
