Caroline Price Reid

Caroline Price Reid died on August 29, 2010.

She was born on Jan. 30, 1920, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John W. Price, Jr.  She was preceded in death by her husband William M. Reid, Jr. and her brother Helm Bruce Price.

She attended the old Ballard School, graduated from the Louisville Collegiate School, attended Wellesley College and graduated from the University of Louisville.  During World War II she worked as a draftsman in the engineering department of the CurtissWright Corporation.  After the war, she worked at the University of Louisville in the History of Art Department until her marriage.  Her love of the arts continued throughout her life.

She was a lifelong and active member of The Second Presbyterian Church and had a keen interest in charitable work.  Her interest in helping others found expression in her commitment and service to the Bellewood Presbyterian Home for Children and the Cabbage Patch Settlement House.

Her childhood summers at Prestwould, near Clarkesville, Virginia fostered a sustained interest in historic preservation and led to her involvement in the restoration efforts of the Prestwould Foundation.  She was a member of the Colonial Dames.

She is survived by her son William McClintock Reid, III, (N. Taylor Breene); her two daughters, Barbara Atwood Price Reid (David Hyman) and Hensley Starling Reid Peterson (James Peterson), five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and her sister Mrs. R. Bruce Bass. 

The funeral will be held in the chapel at Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road on Thursday, September 2 at 11:00 AM with private burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.  A reception will follow the memorial service at church.  Pearson's entrusted with arrangements.
