Sara Jones Pope

Sara Jones Pope, 91, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009.

She was a native of Birmingham, AL & was the daughter of the late Allie Rawson & Sam P. Jones Sr. Mrs. Pope was graduated from Atherton Girl's High School, attended Ward Belmont College & the University of Louisville. She was a longtime member of Audubon Park Garden Club, Highland Mother's Club & St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was also a former member of the Younger Woman's Club & Woman's Club of Louisville.

Sara was a wonderful homemaker, mother, Grandmother & great Grandmother who loved her home, her flower gardens & her community with fervor & provided long service to each of these in her life.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, William Rawson, Donald D. & Sam P. Jones Jr., her sisters, Virginia Jones Boeckel & Lillian Jones Fishburn.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, H. Patterson Pope, two daughters,  Patty Pope Thomas of Jacksonville, FL & Penny Pope Southwick , one brother,  Joe Brooks Jones & a stepsister , Margaret Keyes Tate of Nashville, TN. Also survived by four grandchildren, Heather Southwick Hunt, Cheryl Thomas Wood, Rick Patterson Thomas & Ned Bryant Southwick & eight great grandchildren.

Funeral service to be at 2:00 PM Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2000 Douglass Blvd. with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation  will be from 3 - 7 PM Wednesday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Ln.
