Charlotte Louise White Raine
RAINE, CHARLOTTE LOUISE "LOUISE" WHITE, of Louisville, passed away at Masonic Homes of Kentucky in Louisville on February 11, 2006, after an admirable battle with Alzheimer's.
She was born September 13, 1925, in Louisville to Charles Fletcher and Charlotte Sledd White. Growing up in the Highlands, Louise attended Highland Junior High, and later graduated from Pinkerton High School, a division of Midway College. She studied math at the University of Louisville, and was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. She worked for both the old Gunderson Office Supply Co. in downtown Louisville, and the Army Ammunition Plant in Charleston, IN. She married Joseph Raine Sr. at the Edenside Christian Church on August 29, 1947. Her life thereafter was filled with her love and dedication for her family and with involvement in philanthropic, civil, religious and charitable organizations, such as the Woman's Society of Christian Service in the Methodist Church, Louisville District Golf Association, the Younger Woman's Club and the Woman's Club of Louisville. In all of these organizations, Louise served as an officer and a leader.
In the mid 1950's, she and Joe Sr. left their longtime affiliation at St. Paul Methodist Church in the Highlands to become a founding family of Christ Church, United Methodist on Brownsboro Road. She remained a member of this church the rest of her life. She also was a former member of Audubon Country Club, where she and Joe enjoyed many social activities, including golf and her passion for bridge. She also takes with her fond memories of warm winters in Florida, and of many good friends.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joseph D. Raine Sr.; her children, Joseph D. "J.D." Raine Jr., and Laura Leigh Raine Abbott (Doug); her brother, Charles S. White; her nephew, Charles Bradford White; a grandson, Clay Raine; and several loving, dedicated, and attentive caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to any of the following organizations: Alzheimer's Association of Kentucky (3703 Taylorsville Rd. 40220), Midway College (in c/o CRD, 512 E.
